The Work Life Balance and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill 2023 has been passed by the Oireachtas, introducing new rights for employees to achieve a better balance between their work and family lives.

The Bill includes the introduction of 5 days' paid leave for victims of domestic violence, 5 days' unpaid leave for medical care purposes for parents of children under 12 and carers, the right to request flexible and remote working for all employees, and 2 years of breastfeeding breaks.

Minister Roderic O’Gorman has highlighted the significance of the introduction of domestic violence leave, making Ireland one of the first countries to introduce statutory domestic violence leave.

The Bill also includes amendments to the Maternity Protection Acts, Adoption Act, and Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission Act 2014.
